The Abbey is one of the oldest and most celebrated man made features of this area of the countryside. Founded in 1074, the amazing piece of architecture has stood here almost unchanged for around a thousand years. There have been many notable monks and abbots that have passed through the abbey, many of whom were involved in the famous brewing industry that took place here.
