A part of the well known University of Gent, this tower can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. An interesting piece of design work, it was the brainchild of professor Henry van de Velde, a senior academic at the university. Opened in 1940 it contains an astounding collection of books that are thought to number well over two million, covering twenty six beautifully crafted floors. It is on occasion open to the public.
