Leopold II was a great fan of the industrial age and celebrated the arrival of the railways in Belgium. He ordered the construction of this magnificent neo-Baroque station at the heart of Antwerp as a commemoration of the ingenious engineers of the time. The station opened in 1905 and still serves as a working railway interchange as well as being a spectacular monument in its own right.
