This impressive church is one of the iconic symbols of the centre of Brugge and can be seen from a great distance away. The spire of the church is a hundred and twenty two metres high and tops off a magnificent piece of Belgian architectural prowess, of which the local people are very proud. The church has a Michelangelo statue within it, thought to be the only one of his works to have permanently left Italy.
