When you enter the Grand Place, one of the central squares of the city, you cannot help but immediately be struck by this fantastic and grandiose building. Serving as the town hall for the community, and having done so for many centuries, the beautiful building has a history that dates back to the 15th Century. The left side wing is by Jacques van Thienen in 1402, the right wing is by Jean van Ruysbroeck in 1445-1450. A Gothic tower stands in the centre, and art is housed there today, open to the public.
