To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence in 1880, King Leopold II decided that it would be a fine idea to open a brand new park, a place of rest and relaxation for the people of the area. The park is not only filled with interesting man made items, but has a massive range of flowers and plants that are examples of native plants from the local area.
