The River Meuse snakes through the town, and has been the lifeblood of this community for many hundreds, if not thousands of years. During the times of great fortification, the river would have been used as form of natural defence. In more modern times a great deal of transport would have travelled up and down stream. Today there are pleasure boats available, and lovely walks beside the confluence.
