This beautiful abbey has a long and turbulent history that is closely associated with the social and political changes that have occurred in the city of Gent. The wonderful piece of architecture was first constructed in the 9th Century, and although a great deal of changes have been made throughout the years, the essence of the original building remains. It remains one of the most famous monuments in the city.
