The Albert 1st Monument is one of the most recognisable pieces of public art anywhere in the town. It dates from 1938, and the site next to the river was chosen because of the important role that the river played during the war. Dedicated to the well loved king of the nation, the monument is clearly visible from both banks of the confluence and is well loved by the public.
