The Brussels Gate dates from around 1300 and is the only remaining part of the old medieval walls that at one time would have circled the entire city. There would have at the beginning been twelve great gates that were similar to this. The walls of the towers are 180 centimetres thick, meaning that as a defensive force, this was a very special piece of design.
