The Ypres Salient is of course the area that surrounds this community, and was one of the most war torn areas of the First World War, witnessing some incredibly bloody battles. The Celtic Cross is one of several important war memorials in the area, on this occasion celebrating the bravery of the Irish troops who fought and commemorating the great losses that they incurred.
