In 1778 the Brothers Renard were captured by the local people after they had killed a priest, a famous man called Xhingnesse. Their fate was not to be a pleasant one. The people of the town took it upon themselves to administer justice and tortured the brothers before finally hanging by the neck till dead from this tree. The tree still stands at Florihead.
