Ijzerenleen, literally translating as ‘iron railings’ is a massive elongated square that was once the home to the main fish market in the city, and has always been one of the more important public places. A canal runs down the centre of the square, linking up with the River Dyle, and although the canal was vaulted in the 19th Century, the railings remind visitors that the canal is still there.
