The Ijzer River is the only confluence in the whole of Belgium that runs directly into the North Sea. It is one of the more famous and well loved rivers in the country and has really carved out this area of the countryside, forming a breathtaking landscape in which the town stands. There are several walkways that follow the path of the river.
