The Klapgat is one of the more famous streets in the central areas of the city. Close to the Church of St. John, the passage would have been used in times gone by as a place to talk about the events of the day. The chatter or gossip would have almost certainly taken place in Mechelen dialect, keeping the secrets of the city, well hidden within it in every respect.
