The Maiden of Flanders is one of the most famous monuments anywhere in the city, and possibly the entire region. It depicts a victorious golden image of a Flemish woman after the Battle of the Golden Spurs that took place in the city on the 11th July 1302. This is an important chapter in the history of the city and the country, and will never be forgotten.
