Many war memorials are very similar in the way that they look, but not in the case of this magnificent piece of commemorative art by Yvonne Serruys. It does not show a victorious soldier who has engaged in battle or won, it in fact focuses on the sorrow and despair of those who have been left behind. A popular and talked about feature of the local community, it is well worth a visit.
