Sir Reginal Blomfeld designed many of the great buildings and monuments in this town, but none as well loved by the British as this one. A regularly visited monument, the British War Memorial from the First World War, more commonly know as the Menin Gate, is a beautiful and imposing piece of architecture, an edifice on which the names of 54,896 missing soldiers are written.
