Perron is a fantastically important part of Liege. Although only a statue, the symbolism behind it is paramount to the dignity and independence of the people of the area. The statue was originally put up as a sign of the freedoms of the people of Liege, but destroyed by Charles of Burgundy. Defiantly, a second statue was made and added in 1697, and since that time has not been touched.
