Saint Peter’s Church is the oldest in the city, and stands as one of the dominant forces at the heart of the city, on the main market square. It is presumed that the church was founded in 986, but the first structure was lost to fire in 1176. The current Romanesque church was built shortly after that and contains some of the treasures of the religious city within it.
