The Small Beguinage is one of the two areas of religious residences that were built at the very centre of the city in the 13th Century. Filled with simple and beautiful houses, the idea of the community was to provide a place of rest and contemplation, away from the real world, and therefore allowing the residents to serve God as well as they could.
