St. Trond’s Abbey House of Refuge was a sanctuary and hostel that was built in the 16th Century to accommodate the many visitors and associates of the Saint Truiden Benedictine abbey. Built in the watchtower, you can still see interesting architectural features such as ‘thrust pots’ where occupants could catch birds whilst they stayed there.
