The construction of the present town hall was started in 1439, and it soon became clear that the building was going to be one of the most important in the centre of the city. The huge belfry is one of many exciting architectural features that are on the exterior and cross the many styles of traditional municipal buildings. There are no less than 236 statues involved in the exterior design.
