Oscarr Jespers is one of the best-known sculptors and artists to be associated with this area of West Flanders. It is therefore no surprise that when it was decided that a war memorial was required for the centre of the community, that he was the one called upon to design it. The poignant and yet beautifully crafted monument is one of the real symbols of a town that has felt the ravages of war.
