The Battle of Waterloo took place in June 1815 and has become one of the most famous set piece battles ever to have been recorded. It was contested between the French First Empire led by napoleon Bonaparte and the Alliance which consisted of the United Kingdom, Prussia and Austria amongst others. The result was victory to the Alliance under the command of Wellington, a celebrated figure in this area to this day.
