Floris de Cuyper was the artist who was charged with the difficult task of creating a memorial to the many men that were lost in the First World War from this city. The conflict raged through the country and was fought in the most part on the muddy and bloody fields around the region. This monument commemorates the loss of these men and celebrates their bravery.
